Welcome to CoreFocus Pilates

1. What is Pilates?

Pilates (pronounced Pul-at-teez) is a form of exercise named after its founder, Joseph Pilates. It focuses on strengthening the muscles of the trunk (abdominals and back), which helps eliminate back pain and other common disorders. It is performed on pieces of equipment that use springs as tension rather than heavy weights.

2. Why is it better or different from standard physical therapy exercises?

Pilates exercises are easier on the body because they are performed in positions of comfort (on the back, etc). CoreFocus Pilates differs from other physical therapy facilities because it delivers private, one-on-one sessions for 1 hour, which allows the therapist to give undivided attention to the patient.

3. What conditions can be treated with Pilates?

Pilates rehabilitation can be used to treat a variety of disorders including chronic neck and back pain, sciatica, arthritis, post- surgical rehab, fibromyalgia, balance disorders, and osteoporosis.

4. How long will it take before I feel results?

Depending on your condition, most people feel better after the first session. However, like all form of exercise, it takes 4-6 weeks before you will gain true muscle strength.

5. Is Pilates suitable for senior citizens as well as younger patients?

Yes! Because CoreFocus Pilates offers training by an experienced Physical Therapist, the exercise is specifically designed for each individual’s condition, age, etc. All health conditions are taken into consideration when exercise is prescribed.

6. I really don’t want to develop large bulging muscles, what can I expect from Pilates conditioning?

Pilates uses springs as resistance and the muscles are strengthened as they lengthen, which produces long, lean, strong muscles.

7. Will I be exercising in front of a large group?

No. At CoreFocus Pilates, all sessions are one-on-one in a private room to allow the client to feel comfortable and not self-conscious.

8. How can I determine the therapist’s qualifications?

Ari Fitzpatrick, MSPT, earned her Master of Science in physical Therapy from Columbia University in 2001. She has also been certified from Polestar Pilates Education in pilates for rehabilitation, and from The Upledger Institute for craniosacral therapy.

9. Are the services covered by insurance?

Yes. With a physician’s prescription for physical therapy, Pilates rehabilitation is covered by Medicare, most private insurances, auto insurance, and workman’s compensation. Check with the office to see if your insurance is accepted.

10. How do I get started?

Easy! If you feel that you would benefit from physical therapy or you would like to start a fitness regime that you will love, give us a call to set up an appointment. We look forward to working with you!
